SAVE America Act

Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or the SAVE America Act This bill requires individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote, and requires photo identification to vote, in federal elections. Specifically, the bill prohibits states from accepting and processing an application to register to vote in a federal election unless the applicant presents documentary proof of U.S. citizenship. The bill specifies what documents are considered acceptable proof of U.S. citizenship, such as identification that complies with the REAL ID Act of 2005 that indicates U.S. citizenship. Further, the bill (1) prohibits states from registering an individual to vote in a federal election unless, at the time the individual applies to register to vote, the individual provides documentary proof of U.S. citizenship; and (2) requires states to establish an alternative process to demonstrate U.S. citizenship. Each state must take affirmative steps on an ongoing basis to ensure that only U.S. citizens are registered to vote, which shall include establishing a program to identify individuals who are not U.S. citizens using information supplied by certain sources. Additionally, states must remove noncitizens from their official lists of eligible voters. The bill (1) provides for a private right of action for certain violations, and (2) establishes criminal penalties for certain offenses. Individuals voting in federal elections must present an eligible photo identification document. An individual who votes by absentee ballot must submit a copy of their identification document with both the request for, and the submission of, the absentee ballot.

Expressing support for the designation of the week of January 25 through January 31, 2026, as "National School Choice Week".

Maddy summaryThis resolution is a symbolic gesture supporting the designation of January 25-31, 2026, as "National School Choice Week." It does not create new laws or affect specific groups, but formally expresses the House's backing for raising public awareness about parental education options. The resolution encourages parents to learn about K-12 education choices (including public schools, charters, private schools, and homeschooling) and urges communities to host events during that week. It has no binding effect and focuses solely on recognition and awareness, not policy change.

Jumpstart Savings Act

Maddy summaryThe Jumpstart Savings Act creates a new tax-advantaged savings program for state-run accounts that help individuals save for career-specific training and expenses. It directly affects workers, apprentices, and students pursuing certified trades or occupations by allowing tax-free contributions to accounts covering costs like community college tuition, apprenticeship fees, certification exams, trade tools, and business startup expenses. The bill enables rollovers from existing 529 college savings plans into these accounts and requires states to administer the programs with reporting rules similar to current 529 plans. The program will apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2025, and is designed to support career advancement in regulated fields.

Accreditation for College Excellence Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 2516, the Accreditation for College Excellence Act of 2025, prohibits accreditation agencies from requiring colleges to support specific political views, ideologies, or partisan positions. It explicitly prevents agencies from assessing institutions based on their commitment to any ideology or requiring adherence to statements of faith for religious institutions. The bill also limits federal criteria for accreditation to only what is necessary, ensuring colleges comply with their accreditor’s standards - not additional unrelated requirements. This directly affects all colleges seeking federal funding through accredited programs by clarifying permissible accreditation standards.

To amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to require all Federal contractors to participate in the E-verify program.

Maddy summaryHR 2641 requires all federal contractors and subcontractors (at every tier) to elect participation in the E-Verify program, which checks the employment eligibility of new hires. This bill amends the 1996 Immigration Act to mandate that every contractor working with federal agencies must use E-Verify for all new employees. It directly affects businesses that contract with the federal government, including those providing services or goods to agencies. The key mechanism is the mandatory election to participate in E-Verify, replacing the current voluntary system for federal contractors.

No Welfare for Non-Citizens Act

Maddy summaryHR 6854, the "No Welfare for Non-Citizens Act," would remove all federal public benefit eligibility for non-citizens under current law. It amends the 1996 welfare law by eliminating exceptions that previously allowed certain non-citizens (like "qualified aliens") to access benefits such as cash assistance and unemployment benefits. The bill repeals existing provisions that permitted limited eligibility and explicitly states non-citizens are ineligible for all federal public benefits. This change would directly affect non-citizens without specific immigration statuses, removing their access to programs like SNAP (food stamps) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) that were previously available under limited circumstances.

Protect Children’s Innocence Act

Maddy summaryHR 3492, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, makes it a federal crime to perform genital or bodily mutilation or chemical castration on minors under 18, except for specific medical reasons. The bill broadly defines prohibited procedures to include gender transition-related surgeries (like hysterectomies or mastectomies) and medical treatments such as puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones administered to minors. It criminalizes these acts when they occur across state lines, involve payments, or use interstate commerce, while explicitly banning religious tradition as a defense. Exceptions include medically necessary procedures for health emergencies, childbirth, or conditions certified by a physician.
