Authorizes the use of a confirmation of trafficking victim status issued by OTDA as evidence of identity for the issuance of a non-driver identification card.
This bill requires public universities, city universities, and community colleges to create an appeals process for students who are denied state resident tuition rates. The rules apply to all students, regardless of immigration status, allowing them to contest tuition denials. Schools must set reasonable deadlines for submitting appeals and for responding to them, and they must post information about the process on their websites. The provisions take effect 60 days after the bill becomes law.
Establishes a program to provide immediate assistance to persons to whom an appearance ticket has been issued in order to address the critical needs of such persons for housing, medical treatment, legal representation, and other requirements.
Provides that no state or local agency, or any agent thereof, may use any funds, facilities, property, equipment or personnel of such agency to investigate, enforce or provide assistance in the investigation or enforcement of any federal program requiring registration of individuals, or maintaining a database of individuals, on the basis of race, color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, religion or national or ethnic origin.
Prohibits certain immigration and customs enforcement agents or officers from holding employment as a state employee, an employee of a political subdivision, a law enforcement officer, or a teacher; defines terms.
This bill allows the Nassau County tax assessor to process a request for a real property tax exemption from the Consulate General of El Salvador. The exemption specifically applies to a building located at 111 Express Street in Plainview for the 2025 tax year. If the assessor approves the application, the consulate could receive a refund of any taxes already paid and have existing penalties or liens removed. The legislation takes effect immediately upon passage.
Establishes a state visa bond fund administered by the office for New Americans funded entirely by private donations to assist persons in purchasing a visa bond for immigrants.
Prohibits the enforcement of federal immigration laws while within two hundred feet of specified voting locations; extends the prohibition on electioneering activities to within two hundred feet of the specified voting location; authorizes a county elections official to extend the time for closing the polls at any polling place if the county elections official determines that voting at the polling place was disrupted as a result of a violation of the prohibitions on enforcement of federal immigration laws or electioneering; limits the exceptions to the prohibition on carrying firearms in a sensitive location; provides for the repeal of such provisions upon the expiration thereof.
Establishes a statewide advance care planning public awareness campaign and a community based advance care planning outreach grant program to fund not-for-profit community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, immigrant-serving organizations, senior-serving agencies, housing-based organizations, and other trusted community partners to conduct advance care planning education, outreach, and navigation.
This bill would allow state agencies, municipalities, and public authorities to offer public benefits to individuals regardless of their immigration status. It enables these entities to provide benefits to people who would qualify under federal guidelines if not for federal laws that currently restrict eligibility based on immigration status. The law applies to various departments, cities, towns, counties, school districts, and other local organizations, giving them the discretion to choose whether to participate. The bill takes effect immediately upon passage and does not require individuals to meet federal immigration requirements to receive state or local assistance.
