Existing law requires the Department of Parks and Recreation to issue a park pass for free use of all park facilities in the state park system to a veteran of war in which the United States has been, or may be, engaged, who is a resident of this state, who presents to the department proof of a disability, proof of being held captive as a prisoner of war, or proof of being a recipient of a Congressional Medal of Honor, and proof of an honorable discharge from service. This bill would require an eligible Gold Star Family member, as defined, upon presentation of proof to the department, to be issued a pass for use of all facilities, including boat launching facilities, in units of the state park system.
This measure would redesignate a portion of State Highway 198, as described, in the County of Tulare as the Brigadier General Charles Young Memorial Highway. The measure would also request the Department of Transportation to update the signs identifying this highway, as specified.
This measure would designate the interchange on State Route 101 at Indianola Cutoff Undercrossing in the County of Humboldt as the Brad Mettam Memorial Interchange. The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, erect those signs.
This measure would proclaim the month of October 2025 as Republic of Vietnam Month in commemoration of the 69th anniversary of the adoption of the first Constitution of the Republic of Vietnam, in honor of the lives lost for freedom and democracy during the Vietnam War, and in recognition of the positive contributions of Vietnamese Americans to the State of California.
Existing law prohibits a video streaming service, as defined, that serves consumers in the state from transmitting the audio of commercial advertisements louder than the video content the advertisements accompany, as specified. This bill would clarify that video streaming service includes a user-generated video streaming service, and would additionally prohibit a music streaming service or podcast streaming service that serves consumers in the state from transmitting the audio of commercial advertisements louder than the content the advertisements accompany.
This Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR 3) designates June 19, 2025, as "Veterans of the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Day" to honor South Vietnamese military personnel who served during the Vietnam War. It recognizes their service, sacrifices (including over 250,000 South Vietnamese military deaths and 200,000+ injuries), and post-war experiences, such as imprisonment in communist camps after 1975. The resolution has no legal effect beyond commemoration; it does not create new benefits or obligations. It directly affects veterans of the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces and their families, particularly the estimated 100,000+ living in California.
The Consumers Legal Remedies Act makes unlawful certain unfair methods of competition and certain unfair or deceptive acts or practices undertaken by a person in a transaction intended to result or that results in the sale or lease of goods or services to a consumer, including advertising or promoting any event, presentation, seminar, workshop, or other public gathering regarding veterans' benefits or entitlements that does not include certain statements, as specified. This bill would expand the above-described unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts to include advertising or promoting any service that does not include the specified statements.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 18 (SCR 18) designates March 25, 2025, as National Medal of Honor Day in California. This resolution honors the recipients of the Medal of Honor, the United States' highest military award for valor.
Existing law authorizes the board of supervisors of any county to grant financial assistance, relief, and support to indigent veterans, as specified. Existing law authorizes this assistance to include the necessary expenses, not to exceed $350, for burial or cremation of any indigent veteran. This bill would increase that amount to $1,000.
This measure would honor those service members who have served and are serving in our nation's military, and would recognize the month of May 2025 as National Military Appreciation Month.
