Maddy summaryThis Senate resolution expresses the official stance that former FTX co-founder Samuel Bankman-Fried should never receive a presidential pardon, commutation, or any other form of executive clemency. The measure directly addresses Bankman-Fried, who is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for fraud and money laundering related to the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange. By formally rejecting the idea of clemency, the bill aims to ensure that the penalties imposed by the courts remain in effect and to signal that large-scale financial crimes carry permanent accountability. Additionally, the resolution affirms the integrity of the federal justice process that convicted Bankman-Fried and reaffirms the Senate's commitment to protecting the integrity of the U.S. financial system.

Maddy summaryThe Protecting American Taxpayers Act is a comprehensive bill designed to combat government fraud, recover misused funds, and strengthen oversight across various federal programs. It directly affects federal agencies, state governments administering public assistance, small businesses, veterans, and contractors by imposing new reporting requirements, extending statutes of limitations for fraud cases, and restricting financial assistance to entities linked to foreign agents or the Taliban. Key mechanisms include requiring child care payments to be based on recorded attendance rather than enrollment, mandating investigations into sudden spikes in health care spending, prohibiting small businesses with convicted fraudsters from receiving loans, and creating a new officer within the Department of Veterans Affairs dedicated to scam prevention. Additionally, the legislation rescinds unspent pandemic-era funds for deficit reduction, expands whistleblower protections for defense and non-defense contractors, and establishes stricter rules against transferring public assistance money abroad via remittance transfers.
Maddy summaryThis bill strengthens the oversight and administration of the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which provides technical assistance to small and medium-sized manufacturers. It mandates stricter financial management reviews to detect fraud and requires centers under probation to show significant improvement within 180 days or face consequences. The legislation also speeds up the process for replacing underperforming centers by setting strict deadlines for competitions and the selection of new operators. Additionally, it clarifies that the government can only take punitive actions against a center after a formal evaluation determines the center is not performing adequately.
Maddy summaryThe American Energy and Mineral Infrastructure Act of 2026 streamlines the permitting process for natural gas pipelines and other energy projects by designating the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as the sole lead agency for environmental reviews and establishing strict deadlines for federal and state agencies to complete their portions of the review. The bill also modifies water quality laws to reduce the number of required certifications for discharges into navigable waters, extends the validity of certain nationwide permits for dredged or fill material from five to ten years, and creates a new fund to address abandoned hardrock mines. Additionally, the legislation updates the National Environmental Policy Act to limit the scope of environmental reviews to effects directly caused by a project, impose specific timelines for agency decisions, and restrict the ability of courts to issue injunctions that would halt construction while legal challenges are pending.
Maddy summaryThis bill, known as the Privately Insured Credit Unions Conversion Modernization Act, updates rules for privately insured credit unions regarding their conversion to federally insured status. It directly affects these credit unions by modifying the voting threshold required for members to approve a conversion, removing the previous requirement that at least 20 percent of the total membership must participate in the vote. Additionally, the legislation extends the time frame for the National Credit Union Administration to review a conversion application from a minimum of seven days to a minimum of 90 days. These changes aim to simplify the conversion process and provide a longer period for regulatory review without altering the fundamental eligibility criteria for conversion.
Maddy summaryThe America the Beautiful Act reauthorizes the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund through 2033, increasing its annual funding from $1.9 billion to $2 billion. It requires that projects funded by the Legacy Restoration Fund must secure at least 15% of their costs from public donations, which will be solicited through public awareness campaigns, donation locations at recreation sites, and during the purchase of recreation passes. The bill also mandates new reporting requirements for deferred maintenance and disposal of assets no longer serving public interest, while ensuring donations are credited to the Fund and allocated to specific projects.
Stop Secret Spending Act of 2025 This bill expands a requirement for federal agencies to report expenditures on the USAspending.gov website to include other transaction agreement expenditures. (Other transaction agreements, or OTAs, are contractual instruments other than standard procurement contracts, grants, or cooperative agreements; they are exempt from many federal procurement laws and regulations). Under current law, federal agencies must report expenditures on federal awards to USAspending.gov with the term federal award defined as federal grants, loans, cooperative agreements, contracts, and certain other types of expenditures. This bill expands the definition of federal award to include expenditures under OTAs, and therefore such expenditures must be included on the USAspending.gov website. The Department of the Treasury must ensure that data relating to OTAs are automatically transmitted to the website and a centralized view of this data is available on the website. Treasury must also annually post on the USAspending.gov website a report that includes (1) the total amount of federal spending on federal awards for which data has not been posted on the website, and (2) the reason why such spending data was not posted. For 10 years after enactment, the Office of Inspector General of specified federal agencies must periodically submit to Congress and make publicly available a report assessing the agency's spending data and use of data standards.
Maddy summaryThe Stopping Harmful and Outrageous Torts Act expands legal protections for firearm manufacturers and sellers by immediately dismissing any lawsuits currently pending against them that allege harm caused by the criminal or unlawful misuse of their products. The bill defines these protected cases as those where the injury resulted from a third party's illegal actions rather than a defect in the product itself, while explicitly excluding claims involving negligent entrustment, specific federal violations, or design defects. To enforce these protections, the law allows defendants to remove such cases from state courts to federal court and grants them the right to appeal dismissal orders immediately. Additionally, the legislation preempts state and local laws that attempt to hold these companies liable for product misuse and provides for attorney's fees for defendants who successfully assert their immunity.
Maddy summaryThe SAFE for Kids Act of 2026 requires internet platforms that host more than one-third sexual material harmful to minors to verify the age of users before they can access that content. Covered entities must implement systems using government-issued IDs, transactional data, or other reliable methods to confirm users are not under 18, while strictly prohibiting the retention or sale of the personal information collected during this process. The Federal Trade Commission is tasked with enforcing these rules through civil penalties and rulemaking, while the Department of Justice can pursue criminal charges against violators, including fines and imprisonment. Additionally, the law allows parents to sue platforms directly in civil court if their children gain access to prohibited material, and it mandates regular reports to Congress on enforcement activities.
