This ceremonial resolution recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Marine Corps Marathon (officially titled "The People’s Marathon") and celebrates its 40,000 registered participants in 2025. It formally honors event organizers, active-duty service members, veterans, and civilians taking part in the race, which is noted as the world’s largest non-prize-money marathon. The resolution has no policy or funding provisions - it serves solely as a symbolic gesture of appreciation. It takes effect immediately upon publication in the District of Columbia Register.

This bill would require the District of Columbia to create and issue specialty license plates specifically for Purple Heart Award recipients and their surviving spouses or children. It establishes a one-time $10 application fee and an annual $10 display fee, both deposited into the Office of Veterans Affairs Fund. Applicants must provide documentation proving they received the Purple Heart Award, which recognizes military personnel wounded or killed by enemy action. The legislation addresses a current gap where District residents cannot access a dedicated Purple Heart plate, unlike most states.
