HRES 1216: Expressing support for the designation of June as the "Month of Life".

HRES 1216 is a non-binding House resolution expressing support for designating June as "Month of Life." It does not create new laws or programs but formally recognizes the value of human life from conception to birth, citing the Declaration of Independence, opposition to abortion access (including reference to the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade), and promoting life-affirming alternatives like adoption and pregnancy support services. The resolution encourages communities to provide resources for mothers and families during this observance. As a symbolic gesture, it directly affects House members who co-sponsored it but has no legal effect on policy or funding.

HR 8004: America Works Act of 2022

HR 8004, the America Works Act of 2022, reinstates work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It repeals a temporary pandemic-era suspension of these requirements and standardizes exemptions, allowing exemptions only for individuals under 18 or over 65, those medically certified as unfit for work, parents with children under 7, or pregnant women. The bill also reduces the exemption threshold from 12% to 3% for certain states. This directly affects SNAP recipients who are able-bodied adults without dependents in states where work requirements apply.

S 4457: Protecting Minors from Medical Malpractice Act of 2022

Protecting Minors from Medical Malpractice Act of 2022 This bill makes a medical practitioner who performs a gender-transition procedure on an individual who is less than 18 years of age liable for any physical, psychological, emotional, or physiological harms from the procedure for 30 years after the individual turns 18. S 4441: A bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide for peer support specialists for claimants who are survivors of military sexual trauma, and for other purposes.

This bill prescribes that a peer support specialist of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) must not be responsible for providing assistance to a veteran regarding a claim for compensation for a covered mental health condition (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder) based on military sexual trauma (MST) experienced during active service. Such specialists must only provide counseling services, guidance, and support and must not participate in the adjudication of the claim. Additionally, the VA must (1) ensure that its peer support specialists receive annual training on providing peer support regarding MST, and (2) provide annual training on the processing of claims for compensation for covered mental health conditions based on MST to its MST coordinators and peer specialists.
