Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act; duties of landlord, mold remediation, civil penalty.
What changed between versions
All mold remediation provisions, including definitions of mold-related terms, landlord duties regarding mold, tenant relocation rights, and civil penalty structures were removed from the bill.
The bill now only amends § 55.1-1259 instead of the three sections (8.01-226.12, 55.1-1220, and 55.1-1231) that were originally targeted.
New enforcement provisions allow affected persons to seek injunctions and damages in circuit court for violations, with damages set at the greater of actual damages or $500, and up to three times actual damages or $1,000 if the violation was willful.
The document format changed from an introduced bill to a substitute amendment, with extensive formatting changes and line number additions that do not affect substantive policy.
