TRUTH in Labeling Act

This bill requires food manufacturers to display clear front-of-package labels on most packaged foods for human consumption. The labels must show "High in" with an exclamation point icon for products containing high levels of added sugars, sodium, or saturated fat, based on daily reference values for different age groups. For foods marketed to infants (under 1 year) or children (1-3 years), labels must also disclose if non-nutritive sweeteners (artificial sweeteners) are present and state they are not recommended for children. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services must finalize this labeling rule within 180 days of the bill becoming law. The policy directly affects food manufacturers and aims to help all consumers, especially those with lower nutrition literacy, make informed choices.
