Prosecutors Need to Prosecute Act of 2025

This bill requires large prosecutors' offices (serving jurisdictions of 360,000+ people that receive federal crime funds) to submit annual reports on how they handle serious crimes like murder, rape, robbery, and firearm offenses. The reports must detail cases declined for prosecution, cases diverted, and whether defendants had prior serious offenses or were on probation, parole, or in open cases. The Attorney General will set uniform reporting standards, share data with Congress, and publish it online, while blocking federal funding for jurisdictions banning cash bail in firearm cases. This creates transparency around prosecutorial decisions for the most severe crimes without altering legal standards.
