CHECKPOINT Act

S 2065, the CHECKPOINT Act, establishes a Checkpoint Program Management Office (CPMO) within U.S. Border Patrol to oversee checkpoint operations nationwide. It requires the Border Patrol Chief to create standard operating procedures, mandate regular data collection on apprehensions, seizures, technology use, and checkpoint activities, and provide training to staff on data accuracy. The CPMO must coordinate with other CBP offices, maintain data quality, and submit annual reports to Congress on checkpoint operations and surveillance technology use. The law includes a 5-year sunset provision and specifies no additional funding for implementation.
