Taiwan PLUS Act

The Taiwan PLUS Act would designate Taiwan as a member of the "NATO Plus" group of U.S. allies, which currently includes Japan, Australia, South Korea, Israel, and New Zealand. This designation would treat Taiwan under U.S. defense trade laws as a major ally, removing the requirement for Congress to be notified before many defense sales to Taiwan. The bill would apply this change for five years, with potential renewal for additional five-year periods if the Secretary of State certifies it aligns with U.S. national security interests. This would streamline the process for U.S. defense equipment sales to Taiwan, similar to how major allies currently receive such treatment.
