HR 8713 United States House · 119th Congress

RAPID Responders Act of 2026

This bill requires the Department of Transportation to update safety regulations for railcar placards used to identify hazardous materials, directly affecting the transportation industry and emergency responders who rely on these markings during accidents. Under the new rules, these identification placards must be able to survive exposure to temperatures higher than 180 degrees without failing. The Secretary of Transportation must finalize these regulations within one year of the bill becoming law. Additionally, the National Transportation Safety Board can recommend further increases to the heat resistance standards if needed.
