Minuteman III Health and Safety Act

The Minuteman III Health and Safety Act requires the Department of Defense to contract with the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to conduct an independent review of occupational health and safety conditions at facilities associated with the LGM-30G Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile system. This review will assess specific hazards such as asbestos, radiation, and chemical exposure within enclosed spaces, while also comparing cancer incidence rates among missile launch personnel against a control group of Air Force members with similar demographics but different duties. The National Academy must submit an unclassified report to congressional defense committees within 18 months of the bill's enactment, which will include findings on current safety policies and recommendations for improving conditions in both existing Minuteman III sites and future Sentinel missile systems.
