Bone Marrow Radiation Shielding Act

The Bone Marrow Radiation Shielding Act requires the Department of Defense to commission an independent scientific study on whether partial body radiation shielding can improve survival rates for individuals exposed to gamma radiation. The study will be conducted by a University Affiliated Research Center working with United States Strategic Command and must evaluate peer-reviewed literature and experimental data. Specifically, the assessment will measure how bone marrow preservation affects the likelihood of developing Acute Radiation Syndrome, its severity, and overall mortality rates. The findings from this investigation must be reported to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees within 150 days of the bill's enactment.
