Continued Presence Improvement Act

The Continued Presence Improvement Act amends the Trafficking Victims Protection Act to enhance protections for victims of severe human trafficking in the U.S. It requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to grant a minimum two-year period of continued presence (with possible extensions) for victims cooperating with investigations, prosecutions, or civil cases under federal law. During this time, victims receive employment authorization and protection from immigration enforcement actions, except for new violations occurring after authorization. The bill also allows law enforcement to request similar protections for certain relatives of trafficking victims and mandates federal agencies to develop training and materials to help officials identify and request continued presence.
