SAFER EVs Act

The SAFER EVs Act requires federal agencies to coordinate on electric vehicle (EV) safety research and training for emergency responders (like firefighters and EMS personnel) and second responders (such as tow truck operators). It mandates a technical report on EV safety best practices, updated every three years, to guide training programs for these groups, especially in areas with rising EV adoption. The bill also directs the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to consider the quality of vehicle manufacturers' emergency response instructions in its safety ratings for EVs. Additionally, it allocates $10 million in funding for state fire academies to implement and track EV safety training across urban and rural regions.
