This bill requires landlords of federally assisted housing to conduct lead risk assessments for children under 6 before they move in or during inspections. It mandates that if lead hazards are found, they must be fixed within 30 days with no extensions, and tenants must receive written notice. The law applies to housing receiving tenant-based rental assistance (like Section 8), public housing, or over $5,000 in project-based federal aid. Families with young children in unsafe units can relocate immediately to lead-safe housing without penalties or waitlists. The bill also sets deadlines for federal regulations and funds implementation through 2029.
