Office of Small Farms Establishment Act of 2023

S 1809 establishes the Office of Small Farms within the U.S. Department of Agriculture to better support small-scale agricultural operations. It defines a "small farm, ranch, or forest operation" as one under 180 acres or meeting regional/production-based criteria with annual gross income under $350,000. The Office coordinates Department-wide efforts, reviews programs to reduce barriers for small operations, and provides grants of up to $25,000 for equipment repairs, business planning, conservation practices, or land acquisition. The bill authorizes $15 million annually for the Office’s administration and $10 million yearly for technical assistance and grants.
