REAL Political Advertisements Act
This bill requires political advertisements containing AI-generated images or videos to include clear, conspicuous disclaimers. It applies to political ads placed on major online platforms (with 50 million+ monthly U.S. visitors) by candidates or on national political issues. The disclaimer must be visible for text (same size as main text), audible for 3 seconds in audio, or shown for 4 seconds with audio in video ads. The rule takes effect January 1, 2024, and the Federal Election Commission must report on compliance biannually starting two years after enactment. It exempts news content appearing in traditional media or editorial content.
