Justice Involved Veterans Support Act

This bill establishes a pilot program to improve how prisons and jails document whether inmates are veterans. It provides grants and technical assistance to state and local facilities, prioritizing areas with high veteran populations, veteran poverty rates, or existing veterans treatment courts. The goal is to help incarcerated veterans access VA benefits and be redirected to specialized veterans treatment courts instead of regular criminal proceedings. The program directly affects approximately 181,000 veterans currently incarcerated who face mental health, substance abuse, or reentry challenges.
