Grandfamilies Act of 2023

The Grandfamilies Act of 2023 makes it easier for children living with grandparents or other relatives (not their parents) to access Social Security benefits and public assistance programs. It allows states to disregard the income and assets of nonparent caregivers when determining eligibility for child assistance, removes 5-year limits on benefits for these children, and exempts caregivers from work requirements.
