Get Toxic Substances Out of Schools Act of 2024

This bill establishes a federal grant program to identify and remove toxic substances like lead, asbestos, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from schools and educational facilities. It authorizes $5.2 billion annually for fiscal years 2025-2035 to fund inspections, testing, remediation, and staff training in public schools, early childhood education programs, and child care centers. The bill requires states to allocate at least 40% of funds to high-poverty schools, 10% to early childhood settings serving vulnerable populations, and 5% to Tribal schools. It also includes labor standards for construction projects, requiring prevailing wage rates and increasing apprenticeship requirements over time.
