Alaska Trails Act

This bill designates the Chilkoot National Historic Trail (a 16.5-mile gold rush route within Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park) as part of the National Trails System, requiring the Interior Secretary to administer it and coordinate with Canadian entities and Alaska Native groups for preservation and education. It also directs the Interior Secretary to study the feasibility of creating the Alaska Long Trail - a proposed 500-mile route from Seward to Fairbanks - requiring consultation with Alaska state and local governments, Native Corporations, and private sector stakeholders. The Chilkoot designation does not alter existing authorities, while the Alaska Long Trail study focuses solely on assessing potential future designation. Both provisions aim to preserve historic routes and explore new trail development within Alaska.
