Core Moose Range designation

This bill designates the 1854 Ceded Territory as Minnesota's Core Moose Range and establishes a new Moose Co-Stewardship Committee to manage moose as a priority species in that area. The committee will include representatives from state agencies, Tribal nations, conservation groups, and the timber industry to develop management plans, coordinate habitat restoration, and review harvest recommendations using both scientific data and Indigenous knowledge. Revenue from moose licenses and auctions will be directed to a dedicated restoration and research account to fund habitat improvement, population monitoring, and committee operations. The bill also requires the state commissioner to submit annual reports on moose population trends, habitat outcomes, and economic impacts to legislative committees.
