Consumer Grocery Pricing Fairness Act

SF 2556, the Consumer Grocery Pricing Fairness Act, prohibits large grocery suppliers from offering different pricing terms to retailers for the same volume of goods. It applies specifically to "covered suppliers" (manufacturers selling over $6 billion yearly in groceries) and "dominant covered retailers" (supermarkets with over $18 billion in annual sales across 20+ states). The law requires suppliers to provide identical terms of sale (like price, discounts, or payment conditions) for comparable purchases of "covered goods" (grocery items excluding gasoline, alcohol, and prescription drugs) to all eligible retailers. This aims to prevent price discrimination where large chains might receive better deals than smaller stores buying similar quantities.
