School districts and charter schools requirement to provide climate justice instruction

This bill requires Minnesota public school districts and charter schools to implement climate justice education for all K-12 students starting in the 2026-2027 school year. It mandates that schools teach content covering human causes of climate change, how climate impacts disproportionately affect Black, Indigenous, disabled, and low-income communities, the connection between systemic change and environmental action, and community-led solutions. The state education commissioner must develop and provide a model program by July 2026, including age-appropriate resources and teacher training, and schools must report on their implementation. The bill also requires a 2027 report to legislators on program adoption and support.
