The deadline for law enforcement agencies to update their body-worn camera policies was extended from July 1, 2026 to July 1, 2027.

Removed the requirement that agency policies prohibit personnel from intentionally recording a person undergoing a medical or psychological evaluation, procedure, or treatment. This blanket ban is no longer required.

Removed the requirement that policies include a specific procedure for personnel to follow when emergency medical services personnel request them to stop recording a patient during a medical or psychological evaluation.

Expanded the redaction procedure so that emergency service personnel may now request redaction of both evidentiary and nonevidentiary recordings (previously only evidentiary recordings were covered).

Added clarification that redaction may include blurring patient care and muting audio, giving agencies a concrete example of what redaction can look like.

The overall approach shifted from prohibiting recording of medical/psychological evaluations to requiring policies that provide guidance on circumstances where personnel should reasonably and temporarily limit recording, while preserving officer discretion to respond appropriately in a variety of situations.
