AB 718 California Assembly · 2025-2026 Regular Session

Public postsecondary education: admission: labor market outcome and student loan information.

Summary
Existing law establishes the California State University and the University of California as 2 of the segments of public postsecondary education in this state. Existing law requires the California State University, and requests the University of California, to publicly provide labor market outcome information relating to the graduates of their undergraduate programs. This bill would require the California State University, and would request the University of California, to include in admission notifications (1) a hyperlink to the university's internet website that contains the labor market outcome information described above, and (2) information on student loans, as specified.

MODERATE
The amendment significantly restructures AB 718's requirements for admission notifications from CSU and UC. Instead of directly printing average salary figures on admission letters, the bill now requires a hyperlink to a university website containing labor market outcome data. It also adds new student loan education requirements, including the federal student loan statement and an explanation of how different payment schedules affect total interest paid over the life of a loan.
REQUIREMENT

Admission notifications must now include a hyperlink to the university's website with labor market outcome information (as described in Section 66014.3) rather than directly printing average salary and loan payment data on the admission letter itself.

New requirement that admission notifications include the federal student loans statement already required in financial aid materials under Section 69800.

New requirement that admission notifications include an explanation that public and private student loans have a range of interest rates and fees, with a hypothetical example showing how different payment schedules impact total interest paid over the life of the loan.

TIMELINE

The phased implementation timeline (systemwide data for 2026-27 through 2031-32, then campus-specific disaggregated data starting 2032-33) appears to have been removed from the primary operative text of the amended section.
