AB 1262 California Assembly · 2025-2026 Regular Session

Stolen or embezzled property: description.

Summary
Existing law requires a peace officer to hold property alleged to have been stolen or embezzled when the property comes into the custody of the officer. Existing law requires the clerk or person in charge of the property section for the police or sheriff's department to enter in a suitable book a description of every article of property alleged to be stolen or embezzled that has been brought into the office or taken from the person of a prisoner. This bill would state that the clerk or person in charge of the property section may enter that description in a computer database. The bill would also make technical, nonsubstantive changes.

What changed between versions

02/21/25 - Introduced AB1262 · 2 edits
MINOR
No substantive policy changes occurred between these two versions. The differences are entirely formatting and presentation: the first version is a printed legislative document with line numbers and page headers, while the second is a web-scraped version from the California Legislature website that includes navigation elements and removes the print-specific formatting.
TECHNICAL

The bill text was reformatted from a printed legislative document (with line numbers, page headers, and column layout) to a web-based presentation. No changes to the actual legal language of Section 1413 of the Penal Code were made.

Website navigation elements (home, accessibility, FAQ, feedback, sitemap, login, search fields, bill tracking links) were added as part of the web page layout. These are not part of the bill's legal content.
