Private investigator Act: licensure: limited liability companies.
Summary
Existing law, the Private Investigator Act, provides for the licensure and regulation of private investigators by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Existing law, until January 1, 2021, authorizes the bureau to issue a private investigator license to a limited liability company. A violation of the act is a crime. This bill would extend the authority for the bureau to issue a private investigator license to a limited liability company until January 1, 2024. The bill would make conforming and other nonsubstantive changes. By extending the operation of these provisions, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program. The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement. This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason.
