Community colleges: emergency preparedness standards.

Existing law establishes the California Community Colleges, under the administration of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, as one of the segments of public postsecondary education in this state. Under existing law, the board of governors appoints a chief executive officer, known as the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges. Existing law requires the Office of the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, in consultation with the Office of Emergency Services, to develop emergency preparedness standards and guidelines to assist community college districts and campuses in the event of a natural disaster, hazardous condition, or terrorist activity, as specified. This bill would require the chancellor's office to review and update, as necessary, these emergency preparedness standards on or before January 1, 2017, and every 5 years thereafter, and consider including an active shooter response plan, as specified.
