AB 1018 California Assembly · 2011-2012 Regular Session

Public employees.

Summary
Existing law authorizes the state, each city, each city and county, and each county to employ people. This bill would require all state, city, city and county, and county employees to verify each person who requests state-funded benefits through the United States Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program. By imposing new duties on local officials, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program. The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement. This bill would provide that, if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs shall be made pursuant to these statutory provisions.
