Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind Amendments
What changed between versions
Changed the legal status of Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind from a public corporation with perpetual succession to a subdivision of the State Board of Education.
Removed the corporate powers section that granted the schools independent legal standing to sue, contract, and hold property as a separate corporate entity.
Repealed the previous section (53E-8-101) that established the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind as a public corporation.
Added requirements for the State Board of Education to ensure functional operation and oversight of the schools and to administer financial operations directly.
Modified the authority structure so the State Board now directly appoints the superintendent and approves budgets, replacing the previous corporate governance model.
Established a special effective date of July 1, 2025 for the new governance structure to take effect.
