SB 2319 Texas Senate · 89th Legislature (2025)

Relating to automobile liability insurance requirements for transportation network company drivers.

This bill changes insurance requirements for drivers working with ride-hailing services like Uber or Lyft in Texas. It mandates that their auto insurance must cover them in two specific situations: (1) when they're logged into the app and available for rides (but not yet with a passenger), requiring minimum $50,000 bodily injury per person, $100,000 per incident, and $25,000 property damage coverage; and (2) when a passenger is in the vehicle, requiring $1 million total coverage for injuries or property damage. The new rules apply only to insurance policies delivered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026, with the law taking effect September 1, 2025.
