Relating to regulation by municipalities and certain counties of and certain prohibited state agency regulation of automated external defibrillators.

SB 2262 allows municipalities and specific counties (with over 250,000 residents or adjacent to such counties) to require automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in public buildings and events after public hearings. Local governments may set rules for where AEDs are needed, how many are required, and their placement, but cannot apply these rules to licensed health facilities, government buildings, or small venues (under 30 occupants). The bill also prohibits state agencies from regulating AEDs in areas already covered by local rules. This gives local authorities control over AED placement for emergency preparedness while limiting state involvement. The bill is pending in committee as of April 2025.
