Relating to a local option election on the sale of certain alcoholic beverages on Sunday.

HB 679 would allow Texas communities to hold local elections to decide whether to permit the Sunday sale of liquor for takeout or home consumption (off-premise). If approved by voters, liquor stores could sell between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Sundays, wholesalers could sell anytime, and distributors could sell between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. The bill adds a new election process (Section 501.0351 of the Election Code) specifically for this issue, requiring ballots to ask voters directly about Sunday sales. Currently pending in committee, the bill would take effect September 1, 2025, if passed.
