Relating to the qualifications of a county fire marshal in certain counties.
HB 4782 requires county fire marshals in Texas counties that have adopted a fire code under Chapter 233 to be certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as the head of a prevention-only fire department. This applies only to fire marshals commissioned by counties on or after September 1, 2025. The bill amends the Local Government Code to establish this certification standard for new appointments in qualifying counties. It does not affect current fire marshals or counties without adopted fire codes.
