Relating to creation of a grant program for certain peace officers who hold a master proficiency certificate.

HB 4264 creates a grant program for Texas peace officers who hold a master proficiency certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and work full-time for a law enforcement agency. The program provides $6,500 grants per eligible officer, which must be used exclusively to increase the officer's compensation. Applications are submitted by the officer's law enforcement agency (on behalf of the officer) or by the officer with agency consent, and the same officer cannot receive more than one grant. The Texas criminal justice division will administer the program, with eligibility requiring the master proficiency certificate and full-time employment.
