This bill limits school districts to spending no more than $10,000 in legal fees for special education lawsuits alleging violations of federal or state law. If fees approach 80% of that limit ($8,000), districts must report case details and fee estimates to their school board. Districts must then publicly post monthly updates on their websites and submit these reports to the state education agency, showing total fees incurred for each ongoing case. The agency will compile and publish statewide data on these fees, disaggregated by district, to increase transparency in special education legal costs.
