Relating to the compensation and benefits for certain peace officers commissioned by the state fire marshal.

Amended Section 417.006 of the Government Code to explicitly authorize the state fire marshal to commission peace officers for fire and arson investigation duties and to revoke commissions for just cause.

Amended Section 661.918(a) to explicitly include the state fire marshal as an entity that can commission peace officers under Article 2A.001 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Modified Section 417.006 to require that commissioned peace officers be compensated according to Schedule C of the position classification salary schedule.

Updated Section 659.301(5) to clarify that state fire marshal peace officers and arson investigators are included in the definition of 'state employee' for retirement and benefits purposes.

Added Section 4 to classify state fire marshal investigator positions as Schedule C positions, effective September 1, 2025, and expiring September 1, 2027.

Ensured that benefits and protections apply only to injuries occurring on or after the effective date of the Act.
