HB 204 limits the total annual salary (from both state and county sources) for most state prosecutors to the maximum combined base salary paid to district judges with similar experience. The bill requires the comptroller to reduce any excess state salary paid to prosecutors whose total earnings exceed this cap, though the state salary cannot be reduced below the base amount set for district judges. This exemption applies specifically to district attorneys in judicial districts containing counties with populations under 400,000. The law takes effect September 1, 2025.
