Relating to creating the criminal offense of misrepresenting medical history to obtain unnecessary medical treatment for a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual.

HB 1984 creates a new criminal offense for knowingly misrepresenting a child's, elderly person's, or disabled person's medical history to obtain unnecessary medical treatment, if that misrepresentation causes bodily injury or mental harm. The bill defines "medical history" broadly (excluding vaccination records) and applies to health care providers or institutions. Violating this law is a third-degree felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The law takes effect September 1, 2025, and only applies to offenses committed after that date.
