HB 1217 creates legal immunity for federal firearms licensees (gun dealers) who store customers' legally owned firearms under agreed terms. The bill defines a "firearm hold agreement" as a private transaction where a dealer takes physical possession of a customer's gun for a set period and returns it per the agreement. Under the law, dealers cannot be sued for injuries or deaths resulting from such agreements - unless the dealer acted unlawfully or with gross negligence. The law takes effect September 1, 2025, and does not apply to cases that occurred before that date.
