Relating to the creation of a Texas Commission on Assessment and Accountability.

HB 1118 creates the Texas Commission on Assessment and Accountability to develop recommendations for improving public school assessment and accountability systems. The commission will consist of 19 members appointed by the governor (including a current Title I classroom teacher with 10+ years experience), lieutenant governor, and house speaker, with requirements for geographic and ethnic diversity. It will not directly change current assessment rules but will provide recommendations to the state education agency. The commission members will serve without pay but receive expense reimbursement for their duties.
