Motor Vehicles - As introduced, authorizes a dealer applicant without an established place of business to be issued a motor vehicle dealer license if the applicant is a nonprofit religious organization that is organized or incorporated in this state, has its certificate of incorporation or authority in good standing with the secretary of state, and has an established program of receiving donations of motor vehicles that it donates to individuals and providing free vehicle repair services to individuals with demonstrated need of a motor vehicle or repair services necessary to the individual's effort to become a self-sufficient member of the workforce. - Amends TCA Title 55, Chapter 17.
HB 536 allows nonprofit religious organizations without a physical business location to obtain a motor vehicle dealer license in Tennessee. To qualify, the organization must be state-incorporated with a valid certificate, and operate a program that donates vehicles and provides free repairs to individuals with demonstrated need for transportation to support workforce self-sufficiency. The bill amends Tennessee's motor vehicle dealer licensing rules to exempt qualifying nonprofits from the standard requirement of having an established business location. This change directly affects eligible religious nonprofits seeking to manage vehicle donation and repair services for community members in need.
