SB 1137 Tennessee Senate · 113th Regular Session (2023-2024)

Housing - As enacted, authorizes a municipality to aid or otherwise provide assistance to an industrial development corporation for that portion of any project owned by the corporation; and consisting of multifamily housing facilities to be occupied by persons of low or moderate income, elderly, or handicapped persons, for such term or terms and upon such conditions as may be determined by the governing body of the municipality. - Amends TCA Title 5; Title 6; Title 7; Title 13, Chapter 23; Title 48, Chapter 101, Part 9; Title 67, Chapter 5 and Section 67-4-409.

This enacted bill allows counties in Tennessee to create special escrow accounts to help fund industrial development projects that include affordable housing for low-income, elderly, or disabled individuals. Under the new rules, any county establishing such an account must notify the state housing agency and the chairs of two specific legislative committees. The law amends several existing sections of the Tennessee Code to formalize this notification requirement, which takes effect immediately upon signing.
