Municipal election dates must now be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June or November, with the governing body establishing the date by January 14th of the election year.

Municipalities in odd-numbered years can now combine general municipal elections with regular school district elections, subject to school district board approval and shared expense agreements.

Updated petition signature requirements: 5% of registered voters (minimum 50) for first/second-class municipalities, and at least 3 registered voters for third-class municipalities.

Petition circulation is now limited to no more than four months before the election.

Governing bodies can now require runoff elections by ordinance enacted at least six months before the election.

Vacancy replacement rules now allow special elections for unexpired terms, with aldermanic form requiring replacements from the same ward.
