SB 2633 Rhode Island Senate · 2026 Regular Session

AN ACT RELATING TO INSURANCE -- LIABILITY INSURANCE -- UNINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE

SB 2633 would expand underinsured motorist coverage to include property damage (such as vehicle repairs or loss of use), which is currently only covered under uninsured motorist coverage (for drivers with no insurance). This change means drivers can now seek compensation from their own insurer for property damage caused by an at-fault driver who has insurance but insufficient coverage. The bill also makes property damage coverage optional for policyholders with collision coverage and sets a $200 deductible for such claims. This affects all auto insurance policyholders in the state who carry underinsured motorist coverage.
