SJR 9 Oklahoma Senate · 2026 Regular Session

Constitutional amendment; modifying certain appointment procedure; requiring Senate confirmation of certain judicial appointments.

This constitutional amendment would replace Oklahoma's current judicial appointment system by repealing the Judicial Nominating Commission (Section 3) and modifying Sections 1, 2, and 4 of Article VII-B. It requires the Governor to nominate appellate judges (Supreme Court and Court of Criminal/Civil Appeals) for Senate confirmation, replacing the existing commission process. Appointees after November 5, 2025, would serve during "good behavior" with guaranteed compensation that cannot be reduced. The measure must be approved by Oklahoma voters in a statewide referendum.
