SB 374 temporarily transfers school accreditation authority from the State Department of Education's Accreditation Standards Division to the Commission for Educational Quality and Accountability (CEQA) until March 31, 2027. During this period, CEQA will make accreditation decisions, handle school closures, investigate complaints, and provide required assistance, while Accreditation Standards Division employees remain under the State Department of Education. After March 31, 2027, the State Board of Education will resume these responsibilities. The bill updates related statutes to reflect this temporary administrative shift.
